Trésor Foundation Utrecht

Financing

The Foundation contributes to the conservation of tropical rain forests in South-America by acquiring forested areas in French Guyana.
These acquisitions have been made possible through mortgage loans by Utrecht University. Until now repayments and interest could be paid because the Dutch business community, the Foundation Doen and the World Wildlife Fund are sponsoring the Foundation.
From the start the work of the foundation has been supported by donations by the Dutch people. Over 1,200 contributors financially support yearly exploitation through the adoption of square meters in Trésor (€ 12,50 per m²).
With these funds our forester and keeper of the area are being paid. In addition to this these funds are used for maintenance of the entrance building and an educational route through the rain forest.
Teaching aids for the educational programs for school classes and visitors are also financed with these funds.
Recently an increasing number of contributors haven chosen not just to regularly adopt square meters of rain forest themselves but also to gift these to friends and acquaintances for their birthdays or no special occasion.
A number of contributors also supports us in a special way with larger donations, which for instance enable us to equip expeditions to the area or to put together hiking guides for school classes, printed and available for visiting groups.

The acquisition of the area in 1995 has been made possible with donations and long-term loans from the Sep (now NEA), UNA, Biohorma, and Utrecht University (including a mortgage loan).

Based on a treaty of cooperation between the World Wildlife Fund Netherlands/ France/ America the Trésor project is now being supported financially by the WWF.
Next to the income from sponsor contributions the Foundation by now has over 1,200 contributors. By being a contributor they also adopt square meters of the Trésor area. At the official opening of the new UNA power station HRH Prince Willem Alexander of the Netherlands was the first to adopt part of the area through donation.

Financial information about the project can be found in the reports by accountants KPMG: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.

The Dutch Tax Department has declared the Trésor Foundation to be an institution as indicated in article 24, part 4 of the Succession law 1956 and exempted from gift tax on the basis of article 67, part 1. Your donation is tax deductible.
